Of course, March is ISAT testing. Students are well prepared for the ISAT testing that is required by the State of Illinois for all public schools. Students have met with Mr. Gastón to understand the purpose of the test and how both Jefferson and Willowbrook use their results as part of the course placement for the following year. Students were also introduced to the test that will be replacing the ISAT test next year called the PARCC test. Although the ISAT was administered annually, the PARCC will be administered twice a year for all students. Later this year a small number of Jefferson students will participate in a pilot of the PARCC test to provide teachers and administrators a general idea of what the PARCC test will look like and what we need to prepare for a smooth implementation next school year.
The Boys’ and Girls’ volleyball teams are well underway with their seasons and working on improving their skills daily as they learn and develop under the direction of their coaches. All four teams have a full schedule of conference and non-conference matches in the area as well as tournaments. Plans are underway to continue to prepare for the upcoming Track & Field season.
The Jefferson Band, Orchestra, Choir, and Steel Drum Band are all preparing for several events. Keep an eye out for PAC festival, several spring concerts, and “Wildcats at the West” to name a few.
Jefferson is going purple this month to support the fight against Pancreatic Cancer. In conjunction with our sister school Jackson, both schools are uniting in a Girls' Volleyball Purple Game on Tuesday March 18 at Jackson at 4pm. Jefferson has a wide range of activities including bake sales, purple gear sales, t-shirt sales, a purple assembly, a spirit bus, and much more in order to raise funds for the fight against pancreatic cancer.
This month our PTA has sponsored our Girls’ Volleyball tournament. Six teams were invited to participate in the tournament with the proceeds of the event going towards providing all Jefferson students with additional school wide experiences. The PTA also hosted a parent informational meeting to present the Amplified program used in our 8th grade curriculum providing all parents the opportunity to learn about the program and ask questions.
