April 2014

Academics

As we conclude the 3rd quarter, we look forward to a very strong finish in the 4th quarter of the school year.  It very exciting to see the academic development our students are demonstrating as they continue to mature and grow.  Our PBIS data shows that our students are doing an amazing job and continue to be on the path of success.  With these supports in place, student academic growth is moving to higher gains for our students.  We celebrated with 120 students their academic success at our 3rd quarter Honor Roll breakfast.  All staff and administration are very proud of all Jefferson students and we are looking forward to the end of the year Awards Assembly. This month we are also very proud to recognize two 8th grade students for their high academic achievement at the DuPage County Student Recognition sponsored by the Illinois Principals’ Association. The two students selected by their teachers to represent Jefferson are Katie Smith and Shawn Pieper.

Extracurricular

Track and Field teams have been selected and are starting to compete in local meets.  Students are working with their coaches to make this season one to remember.  Our 8th grade students traveled to Skokie to the Holocaust Museum and participated in a number of discussions, presentations, and met with survivors.  This month we are also running our "One Book, One School" activity.  All Jefferson students and staff receive the same book and read it together while discussing the book, doing related activities, and working towards through the main ideas presented by the author.  The book we are reading together is "The Truth About Truman" by Dori Hillestad Butler.

PTA

The PTA is sponsoring the Jefferson Talent Show this month.  Student auditions are set, followed by group practices, and the performances will be scheduled for later this month.  This month is also the 2nd Annual McTeacher Night at the Villa Park McDonald's on Villa & St. Charles.  The one night event features teachers and administration serving meals and cookies with proceeds going to the PTA in order to further support the work the PTA does for all Jefferson students.  Last year, the McTeacher night brought in over $500 in just 3 hours which allowed the PTA to fund special activities at Jefferson including the all-school assembly with the Jesse White Tumblers.
